The University of Illinois is making a bold statement with its new video display, and it's sure to turn heads in the world of college football! But is it a game-changer or a controversial move?
Illinois Unveils the Largest Video Display in College Football History
The Fighting Illini have teamed up with Daktronics, a leading manufacturer based in Brookings, South Dakota, to create a jaw-dropping visual experience for their fans. The main video display at Gies Memorial Stadium will be a staggering 17,300+ square feet, making it the largest in college football and the fifth-largest in professional football. This massive display will be accompanied by 15 other LED displays, totaling over 26,750 square feet and 30 million pixels.
And here's where it gets even more impressive: the south end zone display will stand at approximately 69 feet high and 250 feet wide, with 10-millimeter pixel spacing for crystal-clear visuals. That's larger than life! Imagine live games, instant replays, and animations on a screen that would take 1,621 60-inch TVs to cover! But that's not all—the display is comparable in size to the main outfield display at Citi Field in New York and dwarfs the main display at Soldier Field in Chicago by 3.4 times.
A Partnership for Unforgettable Moments
Daktronics is thrilled to be part of this project, emphasizing the passion and tradition of college football. "We're excited to partner with the University of Illinois... to bring the largest display in college football to life," said Jay Parker, Daktronics Vice President. This collaboration aims to enhance the fan experience and create unforgettable memories for the electric fan base in Champaign, Illinois.

These provide supplementary content, ensuring fans stay engaged with statistics, graphics, and sponsorship messages.
Two large video displays on the backside of the main screen will captivate fans outside the stadium, creating a pre-game buzz and post-game celebrations. These displays offer flexibility for various content, from promotional videos to university events.
