Charity Steps In to Help Jersey Parents with Childcare Costs
A new initiative by a Jersey charity aims to support parents who struggle with the upfront costs of a government-funded childcare program. The Childcare Funding Scheme, launching this month, offers up to £6,270 for 15 hours of weekly care for children aged two to three. However, families must pay this amount upfront, causing financial strain for many.
Recognizing this challenge, the Jersey Child Care Trust has stepped forward to assist those in need. Fiona Vacher, from the charity, emphasizes the importance of investing in early childhood development, stating that 80% of brain development occurs by the age of three. She believes that part-time nursery or childminder experiences significantly contribute to a child's brain development, making it a valuable investment for the island's future.
The government's online application form will be accessible from February, and those who can afford the upfront payment will receive a refund within four weeks. This scheme is a positive step towards ensuring that all children in Jersey have access to quality early childhood education, despite the initial financial burden.
